Wyndham Singers Cornwall Festival

Welcome!

The Wyndham Singers is a male singing group of 22 voices - all of whom are from the village of Kentisbeare and the surrounding area in Devon. We are always looking to welcome new members and we are open to all men who enjoy singing in harmony. There are no auditions for membership.

The Wyndham Singers were formed in the autumn of 2003 with the objective of raising funds for local charities through the enjoyment of singing Christmas carols and music in local pubs. Under the direction of Charles West the singers have proved so popular with their audiences and their membership it was decided to extend the repertoire and perform a number of charity concerts each year. Our sole and joint concerts and performances have raised over £150,000 for charities since our formation.

WE ARE 20 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR AND

WE CELEBRATED OUR 20TH BIRTHDAY IN JULY LAST YEAR WITH A SUMMER PARTY FOR CURRENT & PAST MEMBERS OF OUR CHOIR

OUR SAD NEWS: We are mourning the sad loss of two of our long-standing Singers. A stalwart of our first bass section, Bob Hooper, died at home on Monday 20th November. Two days later our Chairman, Henry Keeling, died peacefully in the care of Hospiscare, our chosen charity for this year. He led our second basses so ably, and was one quarter of our Four Strops. Their families and our singing family have lost two fine gentlemen. We share their families' sadness and extend our heartfelt sympathies to them as they grieve and support each other.

Our concert at St Mary's Church, Uffculme on 11th November in aid of the Karen Action Group www.karenactiongroup.org.uk raised a magnificent £2000 - smiles all round!

Taster Day

We held a very successful Taster Day on 21st October and welcomed 9 gentlemen interested in singing with us. We practised a couple of new songs with them and entertained family and friends with a performance at the end of the Day. Six of them have now joined our chorus bringing our complement to 22.

Concerts

Saturday 20th April 2024 - we will be singing in concert with The Stuart Singers in St. Andrew's Church, Cullompton at 7pm.

Sunday 21st April will see us fulfil a special commitment to take part in the Celebration and Memorial Service for our former Chairman, Henry Keeling.

Sunday 14th July - we will perform a concert in aid of St. Mary's Church, Hemyock & Hospiscare (time tbc)

Saturday 27th July - we're on stage at the Mid Devon Show (time tbc)

Rehearsals

Our weekly rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 7:30pm in Willand Methodist Church, Gables Road, Willand. EX15 2PL
